Children's Literature - Heather Robertson Mason

Little girls are happy with a pizza party and a game or two. As they grow older, the pressure to throw a successful party increases. This book is meant to be an introduction to throwing a party like an adult. As a title in the "10 Things to Know About" series, it is divided into spreads such as "Invite guests in style" and "Be a hostess with the mostest." The advice is concrete and appropriate to the age group, although it is presented as if the parties being planned were for adults. Additional features include a quiz, glossary, an index, and a link to FactHound.com. While the reading level is third to fourth grade, the book really is not appropriate for that age group. It is a better book for older kids who are reading at a lower level. The text is inviting and the pictures are exciting. It could be a good book for the classroom library or a reference book for social girls. Reviewer: Heather Robertson Mason
