Children's Literature -
Part of the "10 Things You Need to Know About" series from Capstone Press, this book tackles the tough subject of cliques and how to deal with them. Some of the topics covered include the differing types of cliques, their good and bad sides (yes, some cliques do have a good side), how cliques form and are perpetuated, the clique mentality, and breaking the clique mold. Written with a carefully controlled vocabulary, using short sentences, and offering straightforward information, it is ideal for reluctant or slow readers. The book design is simple yet attractive with clear chapter headings, colorful graphics, and full color photos accompanying the text. A table of contents, glossary, and index make finding specific information quick and easy. Print and internet sources to learn more are included. A nice added touch is a quiz in which readers can assess their own clique survival style. Because all kids encounter cliques at one time or another, however, one wonders why this book is targeted only to girls. An accelerated reader quiz is available. Reviewer: Pat TrattlesBook Details
