Synopsis

Provides a brief introduction to bruises explaining how they form and how they heal.

School Library Journal

Gr 1-2-Some of the pitfalls of being a kid are outlined in these slim but informative volumes. The first discusses how a bruise is different from a cut, how to treat it, and why it changes color. Safety tips and reminders to wear protective gear are included. Cuts addresses the trauma of seeing one's own blood and reminds young readers that it is just what their injuries need to heal. The topic of sutures is also touched upon, but without discussion of lidocaine, needles, etc. The photos are colorful and informative, especially the close-ups of scabs and infections. Good overviews written in a reassuring tone.-Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, NY Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
