Synopsis

Clues about the butterfly's life cycle, physical characteristics, and habitat lead the reader to guess what animal is being described.

Meredith Kiger, Ph.D. - Children's Literature

Part of the "Book Worms" series, "a leveled reading program designed to reinforce the skills of emergent, early and fluent readers," this volume is aimed at early readers. Full-page color photographs of the life stages of a butterfly anchor the two to four sentence text featuring large print. The sentences have from three to nine words, the majority of them three to five words long. The photographs are great because they give clues to the vocabulary and meaning of the text as well as entertain. The five stages of the butterfly are repeated visually and in print at the end of the book which also includes an index and "challenge word." 2004, Benchmark Books, Ages 4 to 7.
