Children's Literature

Early Spanish readers will learn about the five food groups and the nutritional value of each in this title, a part of the "Yellow Umbrella Books" science series. Young readers will easily navigate through the simple text with subtitled chapters for each food group. Readers are asked at the end of each food group to identify from the picture which food items he or she particularly likes to eat. Also presented is the importance of eating a balanced diet and avoiding foods that taste good but have no nutritional value. The color photographs depict children about the same age as the audience reading the book. The end of the book includes a glossary with a page number for each word's location in the text. Educators and librarians can purchase an Accelerated Reader quiz for this title. The text has 230 words and an early-intervention level of thirteen. 2005, Capstone Press, Ages 6 to 8.
