Gr 5-10-A brief and concise overview of the topic. The author briefly outlines the major systems of the body and then discusses how cancer develops. The bulk of the book deals with patient experiences, giving advice on doctor's visits, explaining tests and treatments, and offering ways of coping with the diagnosis. There is a section on known preventive measures that issues cautions about smoking and too much sun. The line drawings are crude and simple but sufficiently illustrate the text. An extensive index and a list of related organizations and Internet sites are included. This is more of a self-help book than Lisa Yount's Cancer (Lucent, 1999) and Steven I. Benowitz's Cancer (Enslow, 1999), although all three titles cover much of the same material.-Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NY Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.Book Details
