Quotes from Linda set the pace and accompanying photos add to the interest level in this book from the "Disaster Survivors" series. Twelve two-page spreads offer up a plethora of information about how volcanoes form and blow, how devastating they can be, where volcanoes are likely to form, and how volcanologists help predict which mountains are ready to erupt. Each two-page spread has a limited number of sentences, large, enticing photos or illustrations, and a fact box with extra information. The last spread describes how Montserrat is "digging out" and rebuilding. Short sentences written at a third grade level will appeal to students in grades two to seven.
