Gr 5-9-Two easy-to-read titles. Massari defines what cancer is and looks at its causes, prevention, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, and living with the disease. Emphasis is placed on the well-publicized types of cancer-lung, skin, leukemia, and breast cancer. The chapter on prevention spells out the dangers of overexposure to the sun, smoking, and alcohol, and stresses the importance of good nutrition. Numerous books have been written on this subject, and while this one could serve as a competent introduction, it contains little more information than an encyclopedia article. Rosenberg defines autism and discusses its diagnosis and treatment. Two chapters are devoted to the feelings of the siblings and the effect of an autistic child on the family with suggestions of where to look for help and support. Not much has been written about this subject for children, which makes this title a serviceable choice.
