Children's Literature

Flight has been a long-pursued fascination of humans. This book, from the series "Experiments in Science," brings to life the science of flight for humans, birds and even other winged creatures. With succinct chapters expounding on the scientific reasons for flight, a young reader will be filled to overflowing with information. In addition to the text and its bright colored photos, experiments are interspersed offering step-by-step, hands-on experience. The experiments are explained in one to three steps of a few sentences each, so that a young student may accomplish them and make the text become real. Construction of a hot air balloon, an aerofoil, a kite, a paper airplane and a blimp-type creation explaining thrust are all possible with these activities. Boxes of facts and questions add to the thinking involved when reading this book. The short chapters keep the book interesting and a page at the end explains the precision necessary to make experiments work. A glossary and an index finish up this book, which is a must for any science curriculum and the expansion of young minds.
