In two new Flip-a-Face board books, Baby Talk and Baby Animals by Harriet Ziefert, illus. by SAMi, carefully die-cut pages reveal changing facial expressions. With the turn of a page, a baby's "ha-ha!" becomes "boo-hoo!" and a pink tongue for "yummy!" transforms into a sickly green for "yucky!" For Animals, "cat" turns to "dog," and a "monkey" to a "chicken," highlighting the features that make each creature unique. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.Children's Literature
There are very few words to accompany the faces that fill the pages of this board book. The faces are simple ovals with little curlicues for hair and dots for the eyes and nose. As the die cut pages are flipped the expressions change and are usually the opposite of the previous imageβ"ha-ha!" is followed by "boo-hoo," "yummy!" by "yucky!" and so on. It is a very easy way to introduce a few opposites. The cut out on the bottom of some of the pages makes them easier to flip. Part of the "flip-a-Face" series and a companion to Baby Animals. 2005, Blue Apple Books, Ages 1 to 2.βMarilyn Courtot
