Kristin Harris - Children's Literature
Holidays are nice to celebrate with special craft activities and this collection contains twenty-one. Arranged chronologically, start the New Year off with a ringing rattle that has bells on the ends of pipe cleaners and rice in paper cup shakers. An egg carton makes an impressive head for a dragon for the Chinese New Year. Valentine's Day gets a boost with a pop-up heart card, decorated with sparkles. A Passover pocket is made out of felt and sequins. April Fool's Day is celebrated with a wind-up straw and rubber band jacks that jump out of a gift box. The Thanksgiving craft is a napkin holder. Fruit and vegetables are used to stamp gift paper for Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. My favorites are making beads with paper, and tree ornaments with cardboard and tissue paper. This collection includes some tried and true favorites, a few new twists and some new ideas. The instructions, illustrations and photographs are well done and facilitate the process of kids and adults who are helping one another create fun crafts. 2001, Gareth Stevens Publishing,
