Andrea Sears Andrews - Children's Literature
Part of the "Handy Crafts" series, this text provides over twenty ideas for a crafter on a rainy day. The introduction provides some basic craft tips as well as some "saving strategies" to equip a supply closet. Most of the projects, however, require at least one unique item, which demands forethought or a quick trip to the store. This is the greatest disappointment of the text, as its name implies that one could successfully involve a crafter in a project the minute the heavens open up. The directions for each craft are detailed and easy to follow, supported by colorful sketches and photographs. A list of supplies needed for each craft is provided, as well as helpful hints or bright ideas to apply. An adult's help is needed for most projects and these are geared towards children eight years and older. This is not a good book for those looking for child independence. However, it is a valuable resource for the craft loving home that cherishes creativity and messy fun. 2002, Gareth Stevens Publishing,
