Overview

These interactive books will take parents and young children on a reading and writing adventure together. They relive the fun of a special event—a visit to Grandmother's house, a trip to the zoo, their birthday, or a family holiday—by recording it in these books. Children become the books' authors as they finish the sentences using their own words and paste photographs or draw pictures to illustrate them.

Completing a book helps young and beginning readers improve their vocabulary, reading, and writing skills. Each book also introduces other skills kids can work on such as measuring, comparing, counting, understanding family relationships, expressing emotions, and learning family traditions.

Each Interactive Book about Me will bring repeated enjoyment and skill development as children share reading the book aloud with parents, family members, and friends. And when a child's reading progresses beyond the level of the book, parent and child will have a keepsake that captures a wonderful childhood event.

Features

• Every book individualized to each young reader
• Book about themselves gives kids added motivation to read and write
• Engaging reading for children with learning, developmental, or behavioral challenges
• Shared activity for parent and child
• Resource for teachers, families, child care providers, child therapists

What parents and others are saying about the Interactive Book About Me series:

"She loved it! Because she helped complete it by drawing pictures and filling in the blanks, it was easy for her to read the pages without having to ask for help."—Cassandra J., mother of 6-year-old

"We had a lot of fundoing this together. He really likes to share it with other people."—Jennifer M., grandmother of 7-year-old

"I love the fact that he takes initiative in reading the book to himself, initiating spontaneous speech, and sitting down for extended periods of time to enjoy the book. He's a 'busy' kid, so these are all goals we work toward with him."—Amy M., mother of 2½-year-old

"She read it to everyone in our family including our dogs, guinea pig, and hamster! She was very proud of it. I saw her with it at least one to two times a day."—Dottie F., grandmother of 7-year-old

"I really liked working on this with David. He is very happy to have a book about himself, by himself. It was lots of fun and a lovely finished product."—Debby A., mother of 6-year-old

The number of candles on the cake, the friends and family, the special food and clothing, the favorite presents—children can remember in this book all the wonderful people and events that make a birthday so happy.
