Children's Literature - Dr. Judy Rowen

This entry in the "Spectacular Science Projects" series has many simple experiments that children can do with minimal assistance; all are designed to teach concepts concerning animals (including the human animal). My complaint with the books is their use in planning science fair projects; VanCleave gives hints for setting up an exhibit throughout, but also gives the results that should be seen and the interpretation of the results. Thus, the "science" and "experimentation" are taken out of the child's effort. Each experiment does have a "check it out" section which suggests areas for further investigation. If used judiciously, this book (and others like it) can be helpful aids to inspire children to explore science.
