School Library Journal

Gr 2-4In this entertaining and educational picture book, Quetzalcoatl, the Toltec and Aztec god represented by a feathered serpent, takes readers on a year-long tour of Mexico. The simple text reads like a story with a smattering of interesting statistics and facts. Krupp depicts each stop on the journey with roughly colored, layered paper designs that effectively portray the energy and ambiance of the country. Major attractions on the tour include the Plaza of Three Cultures in Mexico City, the Toltec ruins of Teotihuacan, the jungles of Yaxchilan, a school field trip to the colonial palace in Cuernavaca, a Day of the Dead celebration in the island village of Janitzio, and a folk-art market in Oaxaca. A great introduction to the history, geography, and culture of our neighbors south of the border.Denise E. Agosto, Midland County Public Library, TX
