Doody Reviews

Reviewer: Rochell Olive-Harmon, MS RT (R) (Froedtert Hospital)
Description: This is a wonderful resource for those currently practicing limited radiography and preparing to take the limited scope exam.
Purpose: The purpose of this third edition is twofold: (1) to meet the needs of the radiographer in limited practice, including upgrading the performance standards in these areas of practice; and (2) to provide students with a fundamental imaging foundation so that they are competent clinical practitioners capable of producing diagnostic images and minimizing radiation exposure.
Audience: The book is written for healthcare professionals who are currently practicing limited radiography. The authors' wealth of knowledge and passion for the profession is apparent.
Features: It presents concise information on the core modules (radiation protection, radiographic physics, patient care, radiographic exposure, etc.) , but not specific radiographic procedure modules. The images/figures are well done, helping to accommodate different learning styles. A separate section covers specialty imaging modalities and an extension section covers radiographic pathology. The book provides information from the very simple to complex, and includes some unique terminology.
Assessment: This is an ideal, concise resource for those practicing as limited x-ray operators. The chapters that have been added to this edition are more informational, therefore questionable justification for replacing previous editions.
