It's designed not only for students in dental hygiene and dental assisting programs, but for practicing hygienists and assistants who'd like a review for interpreting radiographs and troubleshooting errors. Describing techniques with step-by-step procedures and illustrations, the topics include: basic x-ray generation, image formation, film mounting, biologic effects of radiation, lesions, infection control, film processing and interpretation, intraoral and extraoral techniques, panoramic radiography, patient management, and legal considerations.

• Logical organization of topics presents the material in an efficient way for better comprehension and enhanced readability.
• "Step-by-step" procedure boxes clearly illustrate the proper techniques for performing routine and complex radiographic procedures.
• Boxes highlight common errors encountered when dealing with radiographic technique and provide remedies for resolving the problem.
• Each chapter includes a content outline, educational objectives, and key terms.

Reviewer:Christopher Smith, DDS(University of Chicago Medical Center)
Description:This is the eighth edition of a book covering all aspects of dental radiology, beginning with basic principles and continuing with clinical applications. The chapters have been reorganized and the text and number of illustrations have been increased. This edition is in paperback, making it convenient for easy use in the clinic or elsewhere. The seventh edition was published in 2001.
Purpose:This book presents the principles of radiology and their clinical application in dentistry. Each of the 26 chapters is specific to one aspect. The book is essential for any clinician (dentist, dental hygienist, or dental assistant) who is involved with taking and interpreting a dental radiograph.
Audience:The first edition was published in 1974 and was intended for use in the training of dental assistants and dental hygienists. Through the years and subsequent editions, the book has been accepted and used by dental students and practitioners as well. It is now considered one of the principle textbooks on dental radiology. Both authors are well regarded in their fields and have long been actively involved in dental education.
Features:All aspects of dental radiology are presented with ample illustrations, both clinical photos and diagrams. Each chapter is concise yet thorough, beginning with a chapter outline, a list of educational objectives, and a list of key words pertinent to the theme of the chapter.
Assessment:Even though the title of this book has been changed, it represents the eighth edition of a textbook on dental radiology. Popular demand within the profession keeps it in print and technical advances in the field require periodic revisions. With this edition a second author has been added, one with a dental hygiene background, which further enhances the book's appeal and relevance. This book can easily serve as the primary textbook on the subject, as well as a convenient reference.
