Overview

Jean Watanabe Hee, author of the bestselling cookbooks, Hawaii's Best Local Dishes, Hawaii's Best Pupu and Potluck, Hawaii's Best Local Desserts, and Hawaii's Best Soups, Salads, and Sides, selects the most popular recipes from each of these collections for this handy Little Hawaiian Cookbook!

Hawaii's local cuisine is a smorgasbord of flavors with influences from Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Portuguese, Hawaiian, and a multitude of other international cooking. With over forty delicious, quick, and easy recipes, this cookbook will aid anyone to whip up a meal from appetizers to desserts. Many of these dishes are familiar favorites - Portuguese Bean Soup, Tofu Salad, Mochiko Chicken, or Shrimp Lumpia - either because they are ethnically traditional foods or local versions of classic recipes that have been passed on by friends, co-workers, and relatives. So next time there is a potluck, beach barbeque, or simply a meal at home, turn to the Little Hawaiian Cookbook to venture on a fun, easy culinary adventure with plenty of local flair.

About the Author

Jean Watanabe Hee was born in Hilo and grew up in a sugar plantation community, surrounded by cane fields. Although the community no longer exists, she has happy memories of all the loving and caring people there - many of whom still keep in touch with her. A retired educator with 34 years experience in Hawaii's elementary schools, she spends much of her spare time either cooking or collecting and testing recipes when not busy with her granddaughters. She and her husband Don reside in Kane'ohe.
