About the Author
Jean Watanabe Hee was born in Hilo and grew up in a sugar plantation community, surrounded by cane fields. Although the community no longer exists, she has happy memories of all the loving and caring people there - many of whom still keep in touch with her. A retired educator with 34 years experience in Hawaii's elementary schools, she spends much of her spare time either cooking or collecting and testing recipes when not busy with her granddaughters. She and her husband Don reside in Kane'ohe.
