Gr 4-6 ``There it was! His new BMX bike was propped against the wall under the window, just where he had put it last night.'' This four-page introduction to BMX's thus involves readers in ``Dylan's'' first experience with this popular sport. Each book in this series begins with a similar account, and all but Rocket-Powered Cars complete the fictional espisode near the book's end. Color action photographs and some black-and-white photographs are interspersed with the text, which is divided into short segments. Descriptions of equipment design, history of the sport, safety, and basic information about related organizations and structured events are given. Many other books on ATV's, BMX bikes, and motocross have appeared for this reading level, and most libraries are likely to already own a good selection of them. Only Rocket-Powered Cars stands alone in its focus. However, with their easy-to-read formats and emphasis on fun and excitement, these books are likely to attract children already participating in or watching these sports as well as the curious.
