Overview
"Nothing at All" is the name of an orphaned puppy living with his two brothers until two children come to adopt them. Unfortunately, Nothing at All gets inadvertently left behind-not out of cruelty, but because he is invisible!He is horribly lonely until he meets a bird, a Jackdaw, who says that he knows how to make the puppy visible. Nothing at All doesn't think much of the bird at first, but follows the instructions anyway, and after a little time, hard work, and a lot of dizziness, the puppy becomes visible and is adopted along with his brothers. Best known for her Newbery Honor winner Millions of Cats, Wanda Gág (1893-1946) was a pioneer in children's book writing, integrating text and illustration. Born in New Ulm, Minnesota, she rose to international acclaim. In recognition of her artistry, she was posthumously awarded the 1958 Lewis Carroll Shelf Award for Millions of Cats and the 1977 Kerlan Award for her body of work.Left alone when his two visible brothers are chosen as pets by a little girl and boy, an invisible puppy tries to find a way to become a dog that everyone can see and love.

The reissue of this picture storybook will delight young children who enjoy puppy stories. This is a puppy story about an invisible brother of two other pups, all living in a "forgotten corner of an old forgotten farm in three forgotten kennels which stood in a row." The invisible pup is named Nothing-at-all and is quite happy until a boy and girl come to the farm, discover brothers Curly and Pointy and take them away as pets to love. The invisible pup cannot be seen and is soon lost attempting to follow his brothers. Abandoned and miserable, Nothing-at-all is befriended by a Jackdaw who offers a magic solution and encouragement. The magic takes nine days to completely turn an invisible dog into a visible one. This leads to a reunion with his brothers and a happy ending. The simple storyline, the repetitive patterned text, and the soft but minimally colored illustrations result in a total, satisfying book that will offer comfort and assurances for the reader. It taps the needs of today's child as it did for the child of 1941.
