Obesity in children is of great concern to the nation's health workers. More attention than ever before is being given to what children eat and how much they exercise. Obesity is not a disease; it is a health condition that can be corrected. However, if not corrected, it can lead to diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. This book focuses on information about obesity but also provides direction in what children can do for themselves to prevent the disease or condition. Healthy eating and exercise are emphasized throughout the series. This series, titled "First Facts. Health Matters," presents simple, brief explanations about how things that affect the young reader happen. Each title contains a hands-on activity that illustrates the principles discussed in the book or gives additional information. The glossary contains all the words that are in bold print throughout the text. An index and suggestions for further reading are included.
