Children's Literature
Lots of colorful action shots of personal watercraft (or PWC) draw readers in to this easy-to-read discussion of their history, features, and capabilities. Many of the photographs show children and adults enjoying personal watercraft together, and all riders are depicted wearing life vests. Safety concerns of the sport are addressed more than once. The book lacks an effective conclusion. Instead, it ends abruptly with an imaginary ride on a PWC that includes an overview of the machine's parts, with helpful labeled photographs. A brief glossary defines highlighted words. Without an index and other appended materials to aid young researchers, this book is more appropriate for PWC fans and other casual readers. Part of the "Sports Machines" series. 2004, The Child's World, Ages 5 to 8.βNorah Piehl
