Children's Literature
Kids play, but perhaps they do not think about wild animals also playing. This board books shows mountain goats jumping, elephants spraying water, gorillas following the leader, river otters playing tag, and bears wrestling. Some of these playful activities are part of survival, which can also include some fun. Penguins slide on their bellies on ice to conserve energy and to move faster than they can waddle; prairie dogs look like they are playing hide-and-seek but they are most likely on the lookout for any predators. The illustrations are not photographs but drawings that often have a bit of humor. The closing page shows a young boy playing peek-a-boo. Part of the "Beasties" series of board books.
