Gr 5-9-- This attractive quartet explains the components of the basic food groups, what the body needs, how it breaks down and uses food, and what happens when there is too much or too little of each. Experiments, consumer information, and interesting additional tidbits appear in separate boxes. Colorful cartoons enliven the texts, but are more decorative than informative. Report writers will find lots of information here. These books update Paul Thompson's Nutrition (Watts, 1981) and give more factual material than Bodyworks: The Kids' Guide to Food and Physical Fitness (Random, 1981) by Carol Bershad and Deborah Bernick. Unfortunately, while there is a lot of good information here, there is also a lot of duplication. One book containing all of the facts and less of the repetition is far more desirable. --Martha Gordon, South Salem Library, NY
