This new review book, written by a director of medical student education in psychiatry, will be quite helpful for medical students studying for the USMLE in psychiatry.
Purpose: The purpose is a quick and basic review of the information a clinician must know about psychiatric diagnosis and treatment to be an effective general physician or other mental healthcare professional. The author also states that the book is useful for those who want to know the facts that are most often asked on exams to measure mastery of psychiatric knowledge.
Audience: The intended audience is medical students preparing for the USMLE, although individuals in related fields might benefit from this review.
Features: This 378-page book is divided into five sections: the process of diagnosis, psychiatric disorders, clinical psychopharmacology, psychotherapies, and special issues such as psychiatric emergencies and geriatric patients.
