Synopsis

Suggests how to be safe in situations involving transportation, including using safety belts, helping the driver stay safe, and practicing railroad safety.

School Library Journal

K-Gr 3-Helping kids to stay safe is an admirable goal. However, forcing them to wade through these titles is probably not the way to go about achieving it. Bright, clear photographs appear in all three books. Unfortunately, they don't always match the texts or captions. Bicycle has a picture captioned, "Make sure your bike has reflectors." Because the depicted vehicle is moving, the reflectors are a blur. Another illustration is a poorly matched conglomeration of computer clip art. The sentences are overly long for this audience and the writing style includes an annoying number of exclamation marks. Safety on the Go is the most unique of the group because it addresses public transportation. The same four Web sites are listed as sources for more information in all three books. Libraries that own similar titles, such as the "Safety Sense" series (Child's World, 1996) by Nancy Loewen, can safely skip these offerings.-Lucinda Snyder Whitehurst, St. Christopher's School, Richmond, VA Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
