Children's Literature

This book is part of the "Community Helpers" series providing readers with an introduction to the roles and tasks of the school secretary. Most schools have one or more secretaries who help teachers, students and principals. They have many tasks including typing office letters, keeping track of the school budget, sorting mail, arranging meetings, answering phones and welcoming visitors. School secretaries need a variety of skills including organization, typing and writing, and speaking well. Tools they need to do their job are computers, copy machines, phones and intercoms. They may learn their job through workshops, school or on-the-job training. The work environment of the school secretary is usually in the school building at a desk, near the school's entrance to the principal's office. School secretaries play an important role in helping the school to run smoothly. Also included in the book is a hands-on activity, words to know, index and Internet sites. 2003, Bridgestone Books/Capstone Press,
