Children's Literature - Mandy Cruz

What does the Sun's position in the sky have to do with the time on our clock? What about the moon? How does the moon affect the date on the calendar? The answers are in this book. The Earth's rotation and the moon's orbit determine how many hours are in a day and how many days in a month. When learning the concept of time and memorizing the days of the week those facts are more likely to confuse kids than help them but once they have a good grasp on their days of the week and months of the year this would be a great reference. Better yet, this book could supplement lessons about the solar system. The photos are remarkable and the Spanish translations are useful to bilingual readers. Though aimed at younger readers this book is probably a better fit for the older students studying science or astronomy. Part of the "Earth Matters" series. Reviewer: Mandy Cruz
