School Library Journal

Gr 1-4-Three series entries that introduce U.S. monuments, historical buildings, and other sites of interest. Each 24-page title, half of which is comprised of full-color and archival photographs, features controlled vocabulary, simple paragraphs, and a standard format. The Alamo gives a brief historical perspective on the battle and includes photographs of the inside of the fort. Mount Rushmore documents the efforts that were necessary to carve the faces into the mountain. The Statue of Liberty describes the monument and traces its history. While the concept is interesting, these presentations are merely adequate; travel brochures or an encyclopedia would provide the same information. Anyone who has visited these sites will know that these little books do not do them justice.-Pamela K. Bomboy, Chesterfield County Public Schools, VA
