Children's Literature

Packaged to resemble a book, this kit includes five colorful lacing cards depicting characters from the book. Busy fingers are given three different choices to lace around the Cat in the Hat card. A small activity book includes several visual games encouraging little ones to find what is hidden in a complex picture, spot the differences between two pictures, and find what is missing between two pictures. There is also a rhyming game and a skill challenge involving matching shadows to a colored picture. All details in the pictures are items or characters found in The Cat in the Hat book. Answers are provided at the end. For very young children this is a fun interactive way to increase hand-eye coordination, learn to count, improve their visual concentration, and develop fine motor skills. Nicely packaged, it would make a good holiday gift that just happens to fit easily on a bookshelf and will provide hours of entertainment. Reviewer: Beverley Fahey
