Ferdinand Porsche was a German engineer who designed cars for auto manufacturers. Among them was the company that made the Volkswagen Beetle. In 1948 he finally established his own factory to design his dream sports car. To help sell his cars he entered them in auto races in Europe. The car was fast and powerful. They often finished well ahead of other larger racecars. The company continued to make racecars over the years which out performed other cars. In the 1950's, the Porsche became popular in the United States even though it was an expensive car. A less expensive model was made in 1969, but people thought it was unattractive. So it didn't sell well. The Porsche has evolved from having a rear engine, to having the engine right behind the seats, to having the engine in the front. One of the main features of the Porsche is that it is fast and reliable. The Turbocharger, which could reach a speed of 150 miles per hour, added to its reputation as a fast car. It has been over fifty years since Ferdinand Porsche introduced his sports car and it's still going strong. The pictures are full colors, the text is easy to understand and a glossary in the rear of the book helps in understanding the complex terminology.
