Gr 4-7These series imports devote double-page spreads to 11 "facts," each of which is accompanied by several illustrations, diagrams, and explanatory comments. American Frontier presents a jumble of information often without orientation dates. Statements include: "No part of a buffalo was wasted," "Some Native Americans joined the US Army," and "Farmers starved if the crops failed." Vikings has a simpler text but also has no discernible organization. "A Viking's family was loyal," "Vikings' life was harsh," and "Vikings were law-abiding citizens" are a few of the concepts covered. Both books provide some fun browsing, but numerous other titles present the same material and do a more thorough job.George Gleason, Department of English, Southwest Missouri State University, SpringfieldBook Details
