Children's Literature
Young children will love the colorful illustrations in this board book, including the book's main characters, which are tractors with human features. A window cut through a picture of a barn on the cover shows the tractor on the title page, safe inside of the barn, which is a fun way to begin and will entice young readers/listeners to pick the book from the shelf. This story takes place on a farm and teaches some of the tasks that tractors perform. The text is fast-moving, with each page ending in a rhyme. It can be used to teach preschoolers opposites with pairs of opposite words in capital letters, such as fast/slow, high/low, up/down, and broken/fixed, and illustrations to match on opposing pages. The story ends with a cumulative statement about tractors that will keep listeners wanting to read it again. Never fear, there is another similar opposites book by Bedford called Digger! Digger!
