So your little one won't sit still for a story? Perfect. Tap into that boundless energy with a board book that asks questions such as "Can you wiggle your tiny toes?" Kids can respond by wiggling their own digits or ruffling the cut-out toes in the illustration. The pictures-a mix of bright colors and patterns-invite plenty of action, like fluffing yarn hair and waving bye-bye to a pop-up child. For young ones learning the names of body parts, this is one smart hands-on primer. (ages 1 to 3)

The moving parts on the pages of the board book Wiggle Your Toes by Karen Katz allow youngsters to indulge in not only the titular activity but also to "pull your little ears" with a tab, or ruffle the yarn fringe on another sweet face ("Can you fluff your pretty hair?"). In the finale, a youngster pops from the spread to "wave bye-bye!" Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.Children's Literature
Kids are inquisitive and they love to play games like peek-a-boo or counting fingers and toes. Katz has created a book that offers the opportunity to do the types of things babies adore—wiggle their toes, point to their noses, tugging on their ears, and the like. The illustrations are bright and bold and the tabs, for the most part, are easy to move. The only difficulty may be figuring out if something should be pulled, pushed, or lifted, but that in itself is part of the educational process. A sturdy board book that teaches and is also fun. 2006, Little Simon/Simon & Schuster, Ages 6 mo. to 2.—Marilyn Courtot
