Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

Part of the series that describes shapes and opposites around the house, this board book introduces colors. It is also structured differently from its companions in that the text is more interactive. Instead of just naming an item, Eckt asks readers to identify items that match the featured color. In the first spread the color is yellow. The question is "What is yellow in the kitchen?" The outline of the house is in the featured color. Items in this particular scene include cheese, a yellow bowl, a yellow refrigerator and a yellow pitcher. Since some of these items come in other colors it might have been easier to pick items that stay yellow like butter or bananas. The photographs are high quality and printed on crisp white pages. A serviceable introduction to colors, but not an outstanding book. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
