Many American Indians painted their faces and bodies to protect themselves in times of danger. They believed the spots to be a protection against evil spirits. When "painted" horses, such as the palominos and pintos, were introduced to the Indians, they thought these animals had been "painted" by nature and thus were also protection from these spirits. The colors on a paint or pinto may be in a variety of patches and patterns. The colors may also vary. Paints and pintos have beautiful eyes, often of different colors. Each title in the "Great American Horses" series includes an index, glossary, recommended reading pages, Diagram and scale of a horse, web sites and club information.Book Details
