Children's Literature - Joyce Rice

Some people say that the first Palomino horse was bred by Don Estaban, a cattleman who lived in California in 1800. Estaban offered his workers a reward of silver for anyone who could bring him the most beautiful horse in the country. A young boy showed Estaban a beautiful stallion that seemed to have silver and gold in his coat. This stallion won the approval of Estaban and is known today as the palomino. To be a palomino, a horse must have a coat color that resembles the gold in the American dollar. Each title in this "Great American Horses" series includes an index, glossary, recommended reading pages, Diagram and scale of a horse, web sites and club information.
