Parent Council Reviews

This fun book for infants and toddlers teaches the basics about a unique bird from a distant and different environment. The brilliant pictures are sure to keep children's attention, while the large font allows adults to point out words to encourage following along. The picture of a "pooping" bird fits well with the potty training set. This is a sturdy board book that children can look at by themselves. 2000, Tricycle Press, $6.95. Ages 3 mo. to 3. Reviewer: N. Boyd SOURCE: Parent Council Volume 8

A variety of penguins are depicted in this board book. They are meeting, greeting, sliding, diving and having great fun. But even with all the splashing feeding and preening, the shot of the penguin pooping will steal the show. It is a useful introduction to an animal that kids love to watch, and it is packaged in a sturdy format that will withstand much handling. 2000, Tricycle, Ages 2 to 6, $6.95. School Library Journal

PreS-"Busy, busy penguins. What are they doing?" Schindel uses simple rhyming word pairs that introduce penguin life. Toddlers will enjoy seeing these lovable birds in action. Indeed, they are a busy bunch, from "meeting" and "greeting" to "pooping" and "drooping." The superb color photographs give action to the spare text. The animals stand out against the cold blues and whites of the arctic background. Readers will chuckle at seeing these dignified creatures in silly and endearing poses. This board book is perfect for youngsters to discover independently or to share with an adult.-Hennie Vaandrager, Byron Township Library, Byron Center, MI Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
