School Library Journal

Gr 4-6-- The series format is used to examine a typical day in an unnamed game preserve in Africa. Throughout the 24-hour period, from early morning into the night, animals are described as they gather at a water hole, hunt, rest, and hide from predators. Beautiful, full-color photographs enliven the mundane text. Most of the information is about eating and hunting; there's little mention of environmental or ecological concerns. Nor is there any discussion of why these animals are viewed on a preserve rather than in a free range atmosphere. Children are left with little more than a collection of odd facts about exotic wildlife. This book is better for browsing than for introducing a habitat cohesively. --Eva Elisabeth Von Ancken, Trinity Pawling School, NY
