Synopsis

Instant Physiology presents a system by system approach to physiology, relating to the clinical requirements of medicine and surgery. It covers core physiology with integrated clinical information in an easy to review format medical student study. It will also be extremely useful for clinicians who need to remind themselves of physiological facts at all stages of their careers, and for nursing and allied health students.

This is a very comprehensive presentation of physiology. It is intended for review for board examination. There is a need for accurate and up-to-date references. I think the objectives are nicely met. This book is aimed at those who have finished the basic science in medicine. I think that it is excellent for those with a knowledge of the subject. I do not know the authors, but their work is good. All of the pertinent systems from cellular through blood are covered. Cardiovascular, pulmonary, and neurology are well done. Each chapter begins with the basic principles of the subject at hand. A diagram or a series of equations are presented. The book is extremely brief and some content suffers, but most coverage is adequate. The text is aptly named. It will take one very quickly through basic organ physiology. It is of value if one has a good working knowledge of physiology. It certainly is as good as any other review text being published, and perhaps better. There is little prose, hence little chance of error as in other texts. The illustrations are good, because of their simplicity. Some color might have been nice.
