Kathie M. Josephs - Children's Literature

Did you know that a mother kangaroo can make two kinds of milk at the same time to feed babies of different ages or that a kangaroo can jump the length of four cars? Wow! What a great book! In only 30 pages, the author gives a tremendous amount of facts, colored photos, and interesting trivia. Young readers will find this book easy to read and understand. Words found in the glossary are printed in bold in the text. This is one of the many books in the series, "All about Wild Animals." Kangaroos can be used for writing a report or can be read for pleasure. It is a wonderful way to introduce children to non-fiction. Each page will captivate the early reader and will encourage them to seek similar books. How exciting to know that such amazing nonfiction books for young readers exist. A real surprise was the typical day in a kangaroo's life from the mother kangaroo's point of view. This added a personal touch to the book, and the reader could look at the mother and baby as a family rather than just animals. I highly recommend this book and the others in the series. 2004, Gareth Stevens Publishing, Ages 7 to 10.
