Synopsis
Step-by-step instructions show how to use different forms of wood or cork to create original craft projects.
Kristin Harris - Children's Literature
The "Let's Create" series of craft books are reminiscent of another era. The projects and materials are unusual. The books were translated from Spanish, which may explain the unfamiliar supplies and old-fashioned projects. This book provides instructions for twelve projects using various kinds of wood and pieces of cork. The first project involves cutting out a tree from a thin sheet of light colored wood and gluing leaf shapes cut out of a dark wood onto the tree. A rocking duck is made out of pieces of cork and painted with acrylic paint. The pieces of cork are held together by toothpicks. Popsicle sticks are painted and glued together to make a box. Clip style clothes pins are separated and glued together to make dollhouse furniture. Wire, pieces of cork and wooden beads are combined to make a figure. Wooden forks and spoons are painted to become puppets. Corks are glued on the utensils for noses. Thin pieces of wood are painted to make a folder. This series of books was apparently developed for another culture and are not well adapted for a contemporary American audience. Many of the supplies, such as the thin sheets of wood, may need to be purchased at a specialty craft store. 2003, Gareth Stevens Publishing, Ages 5 to 9.
